Seanchoíche | Wander Wild Festival
Seanchoíche (pronounced Shanna-Key-Huh) is super excited to be going to Wander Wild Festival (Ireland’s great outdoors festival) on 4th April in St. Mary’s Church, Killarney.
The theme for this event will be ‘ADVENTURE’ and all stories told will revolve around this theme. Storytelling played such a vital role in Irish culture, and is responsible for preserving and passing down the history, mythology, folklore, and genealogies of Ireland through generations. Seanchoíche is a night for people from all corners, backgrounds, and identities to come together and listen and engage with stories told by volunteer speakers. For some people, it’s their first time ever speaking in front of a crowd and although it might seem daunting at first, Seanchoíche is a safe space, it’s an event filled with empathy, laughter, tears and joy.

Seanchoíche Amsterdam x Nóisin | Exile
Seanchoíche (pronounced 'SHANNA-KEY-HA') is coming back to Amsterdam on March 13th for a special collaboration with Nóisin based on the theme of Exile.
Exile is the nursery of nationality.
On the week of St Patrick's Day, a global day celebrating a distorted view of Irish culture and identity, it feels neccessary to explore how national identity is shaped. So much of our identity as Irish people is informed by leaving and looking back home, some even theorising 'Irish identity only fully emerges abroad', as many of the notions of Ireland have been informed by the expatriate artists of the late 1800s - Joyce, Wilde etc. However, it is important to recognise that some exile is by choice, seeking pastures and cultures anew, while others is forced due to local conflict of various kinds. On March 13th Nóisin and Seanchoiche will provide a platform to explore the theme of exile through story and song, hearing how we continue to shape our identies by those who left, whether by choice or neccesity.
We want to hear your story! Please send in a summary of your story via our submission page https://www.seanchoiche.com/tellyourstory, and we’ll get back to you if we think it will work well at this Seanchoíche.

As we run nights and workshops across these vast lands, we pay our respect to all First Nations Elders, past, present, and future. We celebrate their continuing connection and contribution to culture, country and community, as we ourselves attempt to reconnect to our own culture through storytelling, and we thank all First Nations peoples for their wisdom in caring for the land, the sky, the rivers, the sea and of course the stories that we hear, that we share, and that we feel.
